Well, we tried our hand at getting some hunting footage from our South Dakota Spring Snow Goose Hunts. Hard to put the gun down and use the camera after all the hard work of setting up for snows. Ended up with some action footage from a couple different mornings.

I would like to thank all of those that hunted with us this Spring. Met a lot of new friends and we hunted in some near tropical weather. Most days were in the 70’s and 80’s even. I would also like to thank my guides and everyrone else that supports our business. Hope you enjoy…

I can’t remember having such warm weather day after day. Many days were in the 70’s and a few were even in the 80’s!!! Hottest day was 86 degrees and we shot 86 geese that day, definitely not your typical spring on the prairies!?!! Another great year all around with plenty of good hunts and drier fields for easier access. On our last day we were lucky enough to shoot an adult Blue Phase Ross Goose. Best day of the season was a 134 for four hunters. Big thanks to all of those who hunted with us this spring in South Dakota. I am editing a video that I should have ready soon. More pictures as I get them ready also.

Moe Neale launched a new waterfowling guide/outfitter business this year, called Alaskan Eider Outfitters. This is a new and separate business not connected to my other company, Four Flyways Outfitters. Alaskan Eider Outfitters offers guided sea duck hunts for King Eiders and other sea ducks on St. Paul Island, Alaska. Alaskan Eider Outfitters and Four Flyways Outfitters are in no way associated with Aleutian Island Waterfowlers or that business’ owner.

January 2012 was Alaskan Eider Outfitters first season on St. Paul, but our team has many years of experience hunting sea ducks on the island and elsewhere. Capt. Moe and I have teamed with St. Paul resident Dustin Jones, who grew up hunting there. His experience has been a great asset as he guides our hunters for these trophy birds. Our first season could have not been more successful in spite of record snow amounts, the usual chaotic January Bering Sea winds and seas. We are pleased to report that we had 100% success with all of our hunters getting at least 3 King Eiders and many were able to get 4 which is the seasonal limit for non-residents of Alaska. We are looking forward to next January and another banner year as we help our hunters get their King Eiders and other trophy sea duck species. I would like to thank all of our hunters this year for being great guys to hunt with and also thank Capt. Moe Neale, Dustin and Michelle for all their hard work in making our inaugural season go so well.

We really had a great bunch of guys to hunt with this year again, big thanks to all of you. We were able to hunt on our own the last few days and scout some new areas and target a few species that we usually don’t. It really paid off and we were able to pattern the movements of some good numbers of Eurasian Wigeon and Pacific Common Eiders. Sea duck numbers were as good or better than I have ever seen in the Area in November. Harlequins, Black Scoters, White-winged Scoters and Oldsquaw(Long-tailed Ducks) were all around in good numbers. We also had the opportunity at a few Surf Scoters and of course Steller’s Eiders and Emperor Geese (Both which are currently closed to hunting) were everywhere. We will be offering hunts through November for 2012 focusing on trophy sea ducks, Black Brant and Ptarmigan with opportunities for Eurasian Wigeon and other dabbling and diving ducks also. We were able to get our first Eurasian Wigeon of the year and one lucky hunter went home with a double banded Black Brant. Lots of Canada Geese, Ptarmigan and Salmon rounded out the week. Our first group o hunters has come and each left with a banded Black Brant in addition to many other ducks, geese, ptarmigan and fish. We were lucky enough to get our first White Front this week also. The fishing was very good for Silver Salmon and we also caught a hard fighting Steelhead in addition to numerous Dolly Varden. Here are a few pics from the first week and I will update the blog soon with some more hunting pics.  Hope everyone has a great 2011 hunting season.

We have made some progress on our sea duck decoys.  Here are a few pictures of our new Harlequin and Oldsquaw decoys that we will use this fall.  Alaska’s opener for waterfowl is just a few days away and we are busy getting ready for another great season of  duck and goose hunting.  Stay tuned for more updates and photos that we will post up periodically throughout the waterfowl hunting season.
